Sim Warren has just directed the 4th film in his beautiful and entirely self-shot series of portraits for Millican. This instalment of the Personal Journey series is called “Balance”. As with the other films, it tells the story of an outdoor explorer on their own personal journey into the wilderness. This film features the almost spiritual experience of one young woman who wild-swims in cold waters in the Lake District to help calm her busy brain, and support her own mental health. Sim, as usual, has created a truly intimate film that gets under the surface literally and emotionally; telling her story without intruding and creating a sense of wonder at the power of her solitary moments. Not many film-makers can pull this off so effortlessly, and thats probably why other filmmakers so regularly mention Sim’s work to us.
